(ANSA) - Rome, August 4 - Culture Minister Dario Franceschini said Tuesday the superior council for cultural assets and landscape has approved the allocation of 80 million euros for large-scale projects in 2015-2016. Of these, 18.5 million will go to rebuild the arena of the Colosseum in Rome and 18 million will bankroll the so-called Great Uffizi project in Florence, the minister said. The measure also contains 490 million euros in investments for the five southern regions of Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia and Sicily.
The funds will go to restore or extend the Naples Archeological Museum, the Reggio Calabria Archeological Museum, the Reggia di Caserta royal palace, the Sibari museum and archeological park, and medieval Swabian castles in Bari and Trani, among others.
The funds will go to "a unified strategy for the safeguarding of the national heritage and the promotion and development of culture as per Article 9 of the Constitution," Franceschini said. "Investments in cultural assets are finally back".
