Martina hails fruit, veg farmers at Expo

(ANSA) - Milan, July 28 - Agriculture Minister Maurizio Martina hailed Italy's fruit and vegetable sector on Tuesday at the Expo world's fair.
    Farmers in this sector cultivate more than one million hectares of land across the country, the minister said during the one-day Festival of Fruits and Vegetables.
    He said it was "important" that at the last European Agricultural Council, there was an unblocking of Italy's request to have more management over fruit and vegetable exports following Russia's ban on EU agricultural products.
    Martina also said government should focus on supporting farmers under 40. "I'm convinced that if we go back to the land with an entrepreneurial spirit, there's truly a piece of the country's future in this wager," Martina said.
