(ANSA) - Rome, July 28 - Susanna Camusso, the head of Italy's biggest trade union confederation CGIL, said Tuesday that furore over recent strikes was the result of a anti-worker campaign. Premier Matteo Renzi proposed tighter restrictions on industrial action after strikes last week at the Pompeii archaeological site and by Alitalia staff caused mayor disruption. Rome's transport service has also been thrown into chaos by a work-to-rule by metro drivers. "It doesn't seem the right road to me," Camusso said of the possible squeeze on strikes. "It smacks to me of the umpteenth summer campaign against the workers. "There's no need to pass new laws. Using the existing agreements is sufficient".
