(ANSA) - Rome, July 17 - Italian President Sergio Mattarella
on Friday encouraged "a constructive dialogue between religions"
on the feast day of Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim celebration marking
the end of Ramadan fasting.
"I hope that today's event will be an opportunity to
reiterate the rejection of every type of hateful exploitation,
in respect for the values and ideals that have always guided
Italy's actions," Mattarella said.
He added that "the pluralism of worship and the rejection
of all forms of discrimination based on religious affiliation
are historic conquests guaranteed by our Constitution".
