(ANSA) - Milan, May 19 - Norberto Achille on Tuesday quit as president of Ferrovie Nord Milano after being put under investigation for allegedly spending around 600,000 euros of the regional rail operator's money on personal expenses for himself and his family between 2008 and 2014.
The company, which is about 58% owned by the regional government of Lombardy, said that the deputy president Luigi Cardinetti will fill in the top job for now.
Police allege Achille used his company credit card for a range of person spending.
In a statement, police added a judge banned Achille from holding executive positions for six months.
Also included in the investigation is the head of the supervisory board of the company, Carlo Alberto Belloni, on allegations of failing to properly control financial matters.
Achilles joined Ferrovie Nord in 1998, after working for the City of Milan's transportation department.
Opposition politicians complained the government of Lombardy should have better control over its agencies.
