(ANSA) - Florence, May 6 - Italy, Germany and France turned
a blind eye as former Greek governments "cheated" on public
accounts while he was European Commission president, Romano
Prodi said Wednesday. "And when I tried to stop them," he was
shut down by other European countries, added Prodi during a
debate with former Italian president Giorgio Napolitano at the
European University Institute. Prodi was EC president from 1999
to 2004, in between two terms as Italian premier.
