(ANSA) - Sondrio, April 2 - A German hiker was killed in an
avalanche Thursday in northern Italy near the alpine town of
Sondrio, close to the Swiss border.
The hiker had been rescued and taken to hospital after
being swept up in the snowslide shortly after 1 p.m. local time
in Val Viola, about 2,700 meters above sea level.
He later died in hospital.
