(ANSA) - Naples, March 4 - Naples finance police on
Wednesday seized 5.77 million euros in assets linked to Marcello
Fiori, the former extraordinary commissioner of the Pompeii
archaeological site, ANSA sources said. The operation was
conducted at the end of a probe in which nine officials from the
culture ministry and region of Campania are also implicated. The
probe concerns works for a show at Pompeii's Large Theatre in
2010. Investigators suspect that the contracts were awarded
without a public competition and were beyond the remit of
emergency powers granted to commissioner to safeguard the site.
