Neapolitan crooner Giacomo Rondinella dies at age 91

(ANSA) - Naples, February 26 - Giacomo Rondinella, a popular singer of Neapolitan ballads in the 1940s who made the first recording in 1951 of Malafemmena, the moody hit written by Totò, has died in Rome at age 91, his family said Thursday.
    Born in the Sicilian city of Messina on August 30, 1923, Rondinella was also a successful actor, with Carosello Napoletano directed by Ettore Giannini among his film appearances.
    "Another historic voice of the music of our city has fallen silent," Naples Mayor Luigi De Magistris said in his tribute to the renowned crooner.
    "Rondinella was a great performer of the classic songs of our city".
    "His voice stirred emotions among many generations of Neapolitans and millions of our fellow citizens around the world".
    "He was one of the last grand old men of Neapolitan song".
