(ANSA) - Rome, February 24 - Singer Gino Paoli on Tuesday
resigned as president of SIAE, the Italian royalties
clearinghouse for copyrighted material.
"I am certain I have committed no crime," said the
81-year-old singer, who is under investigation for allegedly
evading 800,000 euros in taxes on an undeclared transfer of two
million euros to a Swiss bank account.
SIAE accepted his resignation, while hailing his
contribution in furthering "the rights and freedom of
expression" of its members.
"Thank you Maestro Gino Paoli," the organization said in a
note.
