(ANSA) - Rome, February 18 - Italy is willing to participate in peacekeeping operations in Libya, said Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni in an address Wednesday to the Lower House and Senate prior to a United Nations Security Council emergency meeting on the North African nation currently undergoing a crisis with Islamist insurgents.
"Italy is ready to take responsibility up-close, to contribute to monitoring the ceasefire, to keep the peace, to work to rebuild infrastructure, to provide military training in a framework of integration of militias into the regular army, to treat and heal the wounded and to resume the broad program of cooperation suspended last summer," Gentiloni said.
