(ANSA) - Milan, January 19 - The Expo world's fair will kick off on the evening of April 30 with an Armani show, a guided preview tour of a new exhibition space called Armani Silos, and a concert by operatic tenor Andrea Bocelli.
The collection going down the runway that night will not be specifically dedicated to Expo, explained Giorgio Armani, who has just been nominated special ambassador of the upcoming world's fair.
The Armani Silos is the Italian fashion house's very own museum-in-the-making, to be located in a former Nestlé warehouse following a 50-million-euro renovation.
"We called it Silos because it used to house food, which is material for life," Armani explained after one of his shows at Milan Fashion Week, running January 17-20.
"To my way of thinking, clothes are also a part of life".
The Silos will display the entire 40-year history of the Italian fashion house.
"It will be an exhibition space in which to house all the product generated over the years," Armani said.
"A technical archive that will display 40 years of activity, from the first to the last dress".
Besides the permanent Armani collection, Silos will also open its doors to other exhibitions per an agreement with the city of Milan.
