(ANSA) - Rome, January 9 - The Lazio region has opened a
probe into the case of an 84-year-old woman with a kidney tumor
whose healthy kidney was removed instead.
The operation took place January 2 at Rome's CTO Andrea
Alesini Hospital, La Repubblica newspaper reported.
"The region...intends to proceed with utmost severity
towards those who made an error of this nature, which is utterly
incompatible with the quality and accuracy that the regional
public health system guarantees," authorities said.
