(ANSA) - Rome, November 4 - The Italian government said Tuesday it would boost funding for the severely disabled to 400 million euros in its 2015 budget, up from the 250 million euros initially allocated.
The new figure is slightly above the 350 million euros for the severely disabled in the current 2014 budget.
On Monday, Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin said lawmakers were "determined" to keep funding for the severely disabled - including sufferers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig's disease - at 2014 levels.
"Parliament has always found funds for ALS and the non self-sufficient," Lorenzin said.
"It would be strange if 100 million couldn't be found...there is a determination to locate those funds," she said.
