Foreigners make up 8.1% of Italian population, says UNAR

Contributed 9bn euros to Italian economy in 2012

(ANSA) - Rome, October 29 - Foreign residents make up 8.1% of Italy's population, and they contributed nine billion euros to the Italian economy in 2012, the National Anti-Discrimination Office (UNAR) said in a report Wednesday.
    More than half, or 52.7%, are women, and one million are minors, UNAR said.
    Of these, more than 800,000 are enrolled in school. Their average age is 31.1, compared to 44.2 years for native Italians, according to UNAR.
