(ANSA) - Brussels, October 22 - Immigrants to European
Union countries who were subjected to forced repatriation
between the years 2006 and 2013 totaled 10,855, said European
Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly on Wednesday.
The repatriations came as a result of 209 joint operations
undertaken in those years by EU and European border management
agency Frontex.
O'Reilly has opened an investigation into Frontex to ensure
the agency is respecting immigrants' fundamental human rights
during forced repatriation to their countries of origin.
