(ANSA) - Brussels, October 7 - Triton, the European
Commission's sea rescue operation to expand EU border agency
Frontex in the Mediterranean, will begin in November as a
complement, not a replacement, to Italy's Mare Nostrum
operation, officials said Tuesday.
The program will have an initial budget of about 2.9 million
euros and operations will take place within a jurisdiction of 30
miles beyond Italian territorial waters.
