(ANSA) - Milan, September 29 - Milan is set to be the first
large Italian city to be illuminated entirely by LED lights, the
City of Milan and energy utility A2A announced on Monday.
All 141,000 city-managed lights are scheduled to be
outfitted with LEDs by August 2015, with 80% completed by the
start of the Milan Expo in May.
Pro-capita kilowatt consumption is expected to drop from 87
to 42 kilowatt hours, even lower than the European average of 51
kilowatt hours, outpacing France, Germany and Spain.
Milan's city hall stands to save 10 million euros on energy
in the first year alone.
A2A will invest 38 million euros in the project over a
period of two years.
