(ANSA) - Rome, September 4 - The Dalai Lama has pulled out of a trip to South Africa amid claims he was going to be denied a visa to please China.
The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, seen by Beijing as a dangerous separatist leader, scrubbed plans to attend a meeting of fellow Nobel peace laureates in Cape Town next month.
He withdrew his visa application after his officials said it would be denied.
The South African government has denied blocking the visa under pressure from China, a key trading partner.
