Merkel would support Mogherini for EU, says Bild

(ANSA) - Berlin, August 29 - Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini is "a shoo-in" for the post of the European Union's high representative on foreign affairs, thanks to the support of Chancellor Angela Merkel, German newspaper Bild reported Friday. It reported that Merkel would favour the Italian candidate if Premier Matteo Renzi helps her to block Pierre Moscovici, a former French economy minister, for the post of EU economic commissioner.
    European leaders are expected to fill posts, including high representative on foreign affairs, when they meet Saturday.
