(ANSA) - Farnborough (London), July 15 - Italy intends to do
its part to upgrade Eurofighter planes, Defense Minister Roberta
Pinotti said at the ongoing Farnborough Air Show on Tuesday.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine, canard-delta
wing, multirole fighter designed and manufactured by a
consortium that includes BAE Systems (UK), the Airbus Group
(France), and Alenia Aermacchi (Italy).
The project is managed by NATO, which is also its prime
customer.
"We fully agree with our partners on the need to upgrade
the Eurofighter, which is an excellent product, to make it more
competitive," said Pinotti.
"Italy has the elements to play a part in this," added the
minister.
The upgrade involves installing new radar equipment
manufactured by Selex Es, a subsidiary of Italian aerospace and
defense giant Finmeccanica.
