(ANSA) - Berlin, July 11 - Following a decision by the
German government to expel the US CIA chief in Berlin, on Friday
in a press conference Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman
Steffen Seibert confirmed Berlin's friendship with the US.
"The friendship with the US isn't in question," said
Seibert. "Our collaboration goes wider and deeper than that
between the secret services."
The decision came on Thursday, as a result of German
authorities having discovered two suspected US spies operating
in the country.
