Christians 'suffer most discrimination' says pope

'Worse than during early Church'

(ANSA) - Vatican City, June 20 - Pope Francis on Friday said he was "pained" to see Christians around the world "suffer the most discrimination" because of their religious beliefs. "The persecution of Christians today is even more virulent than in the first centuries of the Church, and there are more Christian martyrs today than in that era," Francis told a conference entitled International Religious Liberty and the Global Clash of Values. The pope closed by saying he hoped the meeting "might illustrate, with eminent scientific rigor and depth, the reasons that oblige every legal authority to respect and defend religious freedom". http://popefrancisnewsapp.com/
