(ANSA) - Rome, June 12 - The 2,250 Alitalia job cuts laid
down by a deal with Etihad Airlines are a "necessary condition
for the airline to become efficient and competitive," CEO
Gabriele Del Torchio said after meeting hostile unions Thursday.
Del Torchio said the unions were "worried about what is
going to happen but they also realise that an alliance with
Etihad is the only chance (for Alitalia's survival)".
