(ANSA) - Washington, April 10 - Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan said Thursday that change is coming to public-sector management appointments in Italy and competency will be the most important qualification.
Italy has been reviewing senior management appointments to State-controlled companies including Finmeccanica, Enel and Eni.
During an interview with business television network CNBC Padoan, in Washington for the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund, said that the government is looking for "competence and, in some cases, new (faces)," at top management jobs.
Appointees will also be judged on how they handled previous responsibilities, successes and overall experience, he added.
Meanwhile, Padoan also said that Italy has "one of the most sustainable tax systems in the world" and that fiscal consolidation was almost finished in Europe and starting to yield benefits.
He explained that the government of Premier Matteo Renzi is also working on reforms to the labour market aimed at its "simplification" and at bringing "more young people permanently into the labour market".
