Concordia cruise ship to be righted Monday at dawn

Pivotal step in hauling away wreckage

Concordia cruise ship to be righted Monday at dawn (ANSA) - Rome, September 12 - Righting the capsized Costa Concordia cruise ship in order to haul it away is scheduled to take place Monday at 6:00AM local time, Civil Protection chief Franco Gabrielli said Thursday. "The undertaking is the first of its kind," said Gabrielli.

Weather conditions may postpone the process, known as parbuckling. The massive cruise liner has been capsized off the coast of Giglio Island since January 2012, when it crashed into rocks, killing 32 people. Hauling it away will not happen until the spring at the earliest.
