Probes were opened in June that included the brother of the city's mayor along with the mayor's chief of staff Attilio Auricchio, the Chamber of Commerce President Maurizio Maddaloni, president of Naples Industrial Union Paolo Graziano and the Naples America's Cup manager Mario Hubler following complaints filed by center-right mayoral candidate Gianni Lettieri and others, Naples investigators said.

Naples hosted stages of the America's Cup World Series in April 2012 and 2013.
