Good laws important, but implementation essential, says Padoan

OECD calls on Italy to continue economic reforms (ANSA) - Rome, March 4 - Italy must not stop its work on reforming the country's tax policies and other fiscal and economic regulations, the chief economist of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said Monday.

Pier Carlo Padoan said other top priorities for Italy, if it is to recover from recession, include boosting the efficiency of the justice system and fighting corruption.

And just as important as good laws is the political will to implement them, added Padoan, who was speaking after a conference of the Confartigianato organization, which represents small businesses and artisans.

Italy faces a period of political uncertainty after its general election failed to produce a clear winner.
