Human traffickers, pimps busted in Italy (ANSA) - Genoa, December 7 - Police in Italy on Friday said they had busted a human-trafficking ring that had brought at least 10,000 people illegally to Italy and forced most of them into prostitution over the past three years. Police arrested 22 suspects and cited 54 others for allegedly conning people, mostly women from Libya, Nigeria and Niger, into entering the country illegally with the promise of a job in Italy, France or Germany. The immigrants entered through the Sicilian island of Lampedusa before being moved to various European locations. The bust took place across Italy, as far north as Turin and as far south as Salerno.
