Woman leaps to death from Leaning Tower of Pisa
Fourth suicide from monument in two years

(ANSA) - Pisa, May 15 - A 40-year-old woman has committed suicide by jumping from the fourth ring of the Leaning Tower of Pisa after climbing over a two-meter high protective barrier, police said.
The woman, who was originally from Rome and lived in the northern Tuscan town of Pisa with her husband, left no note before leaping to her death on Monday evening.
Four people have killed themselves by jumping from the monument in the last two years, all of them women, police said.
Investigators do not believe that the death is related to the number of people whose suicides have been linked to the current economic crisis, estimated to be one a day since the beginning of 2012.
