(ANSA) - ZAGREB, 13 AGO - The leap in new coronavirus
infections in recent days in Croatia must also be interpreted
taking into account that the country currently has between 20
and 25% more people staying there than the other months of the
year, given that to date there are about 830,000 tourists on the
Croatian Adriatic coast." That is what Croatian Interior
Minister, Davor Bozinovic, head of the Civil Protection crisis,
said in an interview on public TV HTV. Yesterday Croatia
recorded 130 new infections, a number which comes second after
that of July 11, when those who tested positive to Covid-19 had
been 140, whereas on average between June and July there had
been between 30 and 60 new infections The minister did not rule
out the hypothesis that some information, circulated in the
foreign press, of infected tourists returning from holidays in
Croatia may be the result of the efforts of some other countries
to grab the most significant number of tourists,
"Of course, everyone is also fighting to keep their compatriots
in their respective countries, to ensure that they don't spend
their money abroad," Bozinovic remarked. "Croatia - he added -
has implemented measures to attract a good part of the loyal
visitors to our coast this summer." According to the minister,
the epidemiological authorities have received some official
notifications from other countries of people infected during the
holidays in Croatia, but much less than what the foreign press
reported. "There have been cases in which Croatia, following
media reports of infected people, contacted the authorities in
the tourists' countries of origin, and so far, there has never
been any official confirmation," added Bozinovic. Although the
interview did not mention any specific country, most of the
reports of infections imported by vacationers returning from
Croatia concern Italy, Slovenia, and Austria. (ANSA).
