(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 11 MAG - Montenegro is promoting itself as a coronavirus free touristic destination, in an attempt to attract foreign tourist in the Balkan country in summer.

"Montenegro is on its way to becoming a CoronaFree destination," Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic tweeted on Sunday. "Taking care of health, in the weeks to come we will prepare our country for tourist season, continuation of investments and new partnerships to mitigate negative effects of the crisis," Markovic added. According to Markovic, Montenegro "has shown it can successfully managed the Covid-19 epidemics, results achieved confirm institutional maturity of our entire system." Montenegro was the last country in the Balkans to register its first confirmed case of coronavirus. According to data collected by the World Health Organisation (Who), Montenegro has registered 324 confirmed cases and 8 deaths from the virus as of May 10. The country didn't report a new case in the last four days, WHO data show.

The tourism sector contributes to around 21% to the Montenegrin GDP, data from the World Travel & Tourism Council show. (ANSA).
