(ANSA) - ROME - Germany is not only sausages, beer and sauerkraut. Eating a salad of wild rose, tasting a hundred different kinds of cheese in one region or following a route wine along the river Moselle. All this could be the next step in order to discover the country's beauty and heritage. Last night, in a press conference at Villa Almone - the residence of the German ambassador to Italy - Germany has presented itself 'in all its forms': gastronomy, arts, crafts, nature, culture, history. About 150 thematic routes are available in the whole country. The best known route may be the romantic one, combining castles, ancient towns with half-timbered houses, Baroque and Gothic churches and monasteries. ''This year, the focus will be on traditions and folk customs'', said the director general of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), Ulrich Rueter. In 2014, he underlined ''the tourism sector has recorded 97 million euro of revenues, that is 4.4% of GDP. About 2.9 million workers are employed in the tourist sector (7% of Germany's workforce)''. ''The arrivals from Italy - he added - have continued to increase steadily and grew by 5.8% in the first half of 2015, over the same period last year''. As for the profile of the Italian tourist who usually chooses Germany as a holiday destination (2/3 of the arrivals, the remaining percentage accounts for business travellers), is aged 40 (on average): Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Hamburg are his favourite destinations.
