Coronavirus: almost 240,000 cases in New Europe, 8,323 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 25 APR - A total of 237,805 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+5292 day-on-day), 150,383 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, April 24. The total number of fatalities in the region is 8323 (+347), out of which 5321 registered in Germany, 527 in Romania, 508 in Austria, 454 in Poland, 250 in Hungary, 213 in Czechia, 193 in Ukraine, 139 in Serbia, 125 in Greece. Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (150383, +2337 in the last 24 hours), followed by Austria (14985, +61), Poland (10511, +342), Romania (10096, +342), Belarus (8022, +741), Ukraine (7647, +477), Serbia (7276, +162), Czechia (7188, +52), Moldova (2926, +148), Greece (2463, +55), Hungary (2383, +99), Croatia (1981, +31), Estonia (1592, +33), Bosnia-Herzegovina (1413, +46), Lithuania (1410, +12), Slovenia (1366, +13), Slovakia (1366, +13), North Macedonia (1300, +41), Bulgaria (1097, +73), Latvia (778, +17), Albania (678, +44), Kosovo (669, +39) and Montenegro (316, +2). In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 26192 confirmed cases and 1,019 deaths were registered until April 23. In Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany has registered 1808 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3141 in Italy, followed by Austria (1683) and Estonia (1198), while the lowest rate was observed in Bulgaria (156 per million), according to a tally by ANSA based on WHO data. Germany has registered also the highest number of deaths per one million. population in the region (63,9), followed by Austria (57,0) and Slovenia (38,2), Slovakia the lowest (2,7).

Italy has recorded 422,4 deaths per million inhabitants. Between April 13 and April 20, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+85.4%), Ukraine (+84.1%), Serbia (+74.0%), Slovakia (+56.5%) and Moldova (+48.7%), the lowest in Austria (+5.5%), Greece (+5.7%) and Slovenia (+10.4%).

Between April 6 and April 12, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+296,1%), Ukraine (+110,5%), Kosovo (+95,2%), Hungary (+89,5%), Moldova (+80,6%) and Serbia (+80,6%), the lowest in Austria (+15,2%), Latvia (+18,2%), Albania (+18,3%), Estonia (+18,9%) and Slovenia (+19,2%). Previously, between March 30 and April 5, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+368%), Moldova (+186%), Ukraine (+160%), Montenegro (+132%) and Serbia (+119%).
