Kosovo: Serbian protest continues in the North

In northern Kosovo, where the night passed peacefully, local Serbs gathered this morning in front of the municipalities of Zvecan, Leposavic, and Zubin Potok to protest once again against the election of new Albanian mayors. The situation remains calm, albeit filled with tension.

In addition to rejecting the installation of new mayors, the Serbs are demanding the withdrawal of the Kosovar police from the north and the release of two Serbs arrested during the unrest on May 29 in Zvecan. KFOR military personnel, the NATO force in Kosovo, are keeping an eye on the situation outside while police units are still inside the three municipal buildings. Their presence has increased as a result of the arrival of several hundred Turkish soldiers.
