(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 19 SET - Italian right wing party Forza Italia wants the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (ERBD), now based in London, to be moved after Brexit to Friuli Venezia Giulia, particularly to Trieste.

MP and coordinator of FI Fvg Sandra Savino and two local councilors, Giuseppe Nicoli, FI group leader in the regional council, and Alberto Polacco, group leader in the Trieste municipal council, announced at yesterday's press conference that the party is ready to carry out many political initiatives to achieve this goal. Savino underlined that "Forza Italia has been dealing with this issue since 2016, "when I presented a question. On April 13 - she added - the possibility to run for ERBD's presidency expired. For this office, Minister Gualtieri had proposed the former minister of economy, Padoan. But now the challenge with Poland is outlined." MP recalled that "ERBD has 3,000 employees." The ball is now in the Council of Europe ad hoc working group's court. In the evening, the Bank clarified: there is no discussion on eventually moving EBRD headquarters from London. Indeed, in this regard, the ERBD has signed a lease contract for a new property in London, in Canary Wharf, where it should move in 2022. The ERBD also underlined that the Bank "is not an institution that belongs to the European Union. Like non-member countries such as Canada, Japan, UK, Australia, China, and India, the EU countries are mere shareholders. The largest shareholder is the United States." (ANSA).
