Serbia: survey, 50% pro-EU membership, 37% against

73% against joining NATO

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - In Serbia, 50% of the population are in favour of their country's EU membership and 37% against, according to the latest survey conducted by CESID between June 10 and June 20. Explaining to journalists the results of the survey, CESID director Djordje Vukovic pointed out that the number of Serbs opposed to the European Union is growing.

In 2013, 66% were in favour of the EU, whereas in 2011 the percentage was 62%. Even the support for NATO is declining: 73% of respondents are opposed to Serbia's NATO membership. Only 12% declared their support for NATO membership, compared with 25% in 2012. Even the confidence in state institutions is decreasing: 31% of Serbs trust the government, 27% the President of the Republic, 20% the parliament and only 7% trust political parties. (ANSA).
