(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 7 - "The EU has a main role in the Western
Balkans through twin important elements: political initiative
and policy structuring. We are in a good moment where both have
acquired a new impulsion. In fact, the enlargement is back on
track," the former EU Ambassador to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, said
today. Fabrizi spoke at the "Balkan and Black Sea Perspectives
2022," a conference organized in Rome by the NATO Defense
College Foundation in collaboration with the NATO Public
Diplomacy Division, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation, and the NATO Defense College. "The
Russian invasion" of Ukraine "has rung a number of alarm bells,
pushing for enlargement as a long-term strategic investment,"
Fabrizi added, emphasizing that the process should work on
multiple fronts, including reforms, rule of law, governance, and
security. The Rome conference focused on regional international
perspectives, Euro-atlantic integration, and current and future
scenarios for the Balkans and Black Sea region. (ANSA).
