Albania: EU backs 100 mln euros for earthquake recovery

Aids allocated for schools and cultural sites reconstruction

17 July, 16:35
(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 17 LUG - EU Commission approved today a 100 million euros package to support the reconstruction in Albania following the November 2019 earthquake. The financing is part of the total commitment of 115 million euro announced by the EU Commission at the International Donors Conference 'Together for Albania' last February.

The aids will focus in particular to the reconstruction of schools and educational structures, the supply of equipment, and the restoration of damaged cultural sites such as monuments, museums and libraries.

The restoration works, started earlier this year after the allocation of the first 15 million euros by Brussels, will follow the 'Build Back Better' principle, applying sustainable building norms and reduce the future risk. (ANSA).
