(ANSA) - BELGRADO, 13 GIU - The industrial production in the European Union registered a record fall in April 2020 amidst the coronavirus pandemic, with the most significant drops in production observed in several countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Eurostat said.

The largest decreases in the industrial production at EU level in April, compared with March 2020, were registered in Hungary (-30.5%), Romania (-27.7%) and Slovakia (-26.7%), the EU statistical office said.

The seasonally adjusted industrial production fell by 17.1% in the euro area and by 17.3% in the EU, compared with March 2020, the largest monthly falls recorded since the start of the series and very much higher than the ones registered during the 2008-09 financial crisis, according to Eurostat estimates.
