Coronavirus: Slovenian border with Fvg reopens, long queues

Up to one-hour waiting time in Gorizia

13 June, 18:45
(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 13 GIU - Today, as Slovenia reopens its borders to residents of Friuli Venezia Giulia, some queues were recorded at the border crossings of Gorizia and Trieste. Up to one-hour waiting time, this morning, in the smaller border crossings of Gorizia. Rows of cars, several hundred meters long, were due to the checks carried out by the Slovenian border police, who verified through identity documents that only Friulian-Julian citizens were in the vehicles.

The outgoing flow consists mainly of citizens of the Gorizia area who cross the border to refuel their cars and buy cigarettes, taking advantage of the lower prices charged in Slovenia. Motorists immediately turn around and return to Italy.

As for Trieste, the three border crossings at Pese, Rabueise, and Fernetti are currently open.

During the day, the traffic has increased and some queues happened. Slovenia, as reported by Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, confirmed that "from June 15 the neighboring country will lift any blockade on Italy". (ANSA).
