CoE, Hungary should respect Constitution also in emergency

Budapest considering bill granting more powers to the government

23 March, 16:39
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 23 MAR - "Even in an emergency, it is necessary to observe the Constitution, ensure parliamentary, judicial scrutiny" and the "right to information," Dunja Mijatovic the Council of Europe's Commissioner for Human Rights, said on Twitter today.

Mijatovic's tweet was referring to the bill T/9790 that is currently in Hungary's Parliament, which "would grant sweeping powers to the government to rule by decree without a clear cut-off date and safeguards," the Commissioner explained.
