EU: CSIR labor union, Croatia should finally join Schengen

Let's take care of cross-border workers

11 December, 13:31
(ANSA) - TRIESTE - The CSIR, the Italian-Croatian Interregional High Adriatic Labor Union Council, appealed to the European Council, urging it to give the Republic of Croatia the green light to join the Schengen area as soon as possible.

The CSIR does not go into the "unresolved border vicissitudes between the two former Yugoslav republics of Slovenia and Croatia, nor does it intend to underestimate the problems associated with the difficulties in controlling the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina." Nevertheless, the CSIR, that has always been committed to promoting and defending the free movement of workers, focuses on the high price that all Croatian citizens are paying, leaving their country to reach other EU countries, just like any other EU citizen entering Croatia from abroad, due to the continuing identity checks at the border." Furthermore, the CSIR draws attention to the condition of cross-border workers who move daily or weekly across the borders between Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. All the necessary decisions should be made at the national and international levels to make their rights fully recognized. (ANSA).
