Labour: hourly costs rise significantly in Romania

Up also in Latvia, Hungary, Lithuania and Croatia

(ANSA) - BELGRADE - Romania (+15.6%), Latvia (+11.7%) and Hungary (+10.2%) are the European Union countries that registered the highest annual increases in hourly labour costs for the whole economy in the second quarter of 2018, Eurostat said today.

The increases in Romania, Latvia and Hungary are much higher than the EU average. Eurostat said that hourly labour costs rose by 2.2% in the euro area and by 2.6% in the EU28 in the second quarter of 201, compared with the same quarter of 2017.

Strong increases in hourly labour costs were registered year-on-year also in other countries in Central-and Eastern Europe, including Lithuania and Croatia (+9.8%), Czech Republic (+9.3%), Bulgaria (+8.5%), Slovakia (+7.9%) and Poland (+6.2%).
