Bulgaria, migrant-hunter questioned by police

Following Youtube video showing civilians 'arresting' migrants

13 April, 18:34
(ANSA) - TRIESTE - Bulgarian authorities detained for questioning one of the migrant-hunters responsible for the Youtube video showing the 'arrest' of migrants by civilians, local media reported. The video attracted international attention over the past days, resulting in condemnations by the Government officials, who had initially encouraged the activities of civilian volunteers along the national borders. The footage shows three migrants of probable Afghan origin lying on the ground with hands tied on their backs. Around them, there were Bulgarian civilians wearing mimetic clothes and shouting "No Bulgaria for you, go back to Turkey". Following the spread of the video, the Minister of interior affairs, Rumyana Bachvarova, told one private TV channel that the authorities "appreciate the contribution of the citizens, but that the role of maintaining order along the border remained a responsibility of the police". Bachvarova advised the citizens to call the emergency number 112 or the border police if they want to help the authorities. (ANSA).
