(ANSA) - NEW YORK - US authorities arrested a hacker, Ardit Ferizi, born in Kosovo but resident of Malaysia, charged with stealing personal data from the American military, in order to forward them to ISIS.

The news was reported by CNN, quoting the State Department.

These data, which included pictures and addresses of at least a thousand soldiers and federal employees, were stolen by Ferizi, who had hacked into the computer system of a US company, and then forwarded the data to Junaid Hussein, a British hacker who was active on social media, where he used to recruit westerners looking to join Isis. In August, the US military announced that Hussein had been killed in an air raid in Syria.

According to US authorities, Hussein was a leading member of the so-called 'cyber-caliphate', responsible for online attacks on government sites in the US, France and other countries. Malaysian authorities have agreed to extradite Ferizi in the United States, where he will be charged with offenses related to cybercrime. (ANSA).
