(ANSA) - BOLOGNA - Along the Danube, there is an imaginary bridge between opera and musical, which continues to flourish.

The Operetta, that has become popular during the last days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, is now more vital than ever in Central Europe: about 300,000 people were attracted to Hungarian stages last year, thanks to this musical theater combining dance and drama, opera and orchestra. It's a national heritage, and Budapest and Vienna are the cradle of this tradition.

Ravenna will be the capital of Danubian operetta for a few days.

As a matter of fact, the Ravenna Festival has dedicated to the Operetta Autunm Trilogy 2016: from 14 to 23 October, three masterpieces will be staged, coming from the main Hungarian theaters: the Budapest Operetta Theatre, Debrecen Csokonai Theatre and Szeged Theatre. The Alighieri Theatre will host 'The Countess Maritza' by Emmerich Kalman (14 and 18 October) 'Die Fledermaus' by Johann Strauss, (15, 19 and 21 October) and 'The Merry Widow' by Franz Lehar (16, 17, and 20 October).
