A joint cross-border exercise was
held yesterday morning, September 19, between the Italian and
Slovenian State Police.
The exercise falls under Project ATHENA 2, which aims to follow
up, in operational terms, the convention implementing the
Schengen Agreement and the agreement signed in 2007 between the
Italian and Slovenian governments on cross-border cooperation on
urgent observation and police pursuit.
The 'activity, which involved several crews from the State
Police and Slovenian Police, took place in two phases along the
border strip between the cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica
(SLO).
After an initial briefing, held at the P. di S. "F. Massarelli"
Barracks, crews from the collateral Slovenian police body headed
to the Merna border crossing and simulated a chase that ended
near Mossa (GO). Afterwards, State Police operators headed to
the Salcano border crossing to conduct a second exercise that
ended across the border.
At the end of the exercises all participants gathered to debrief
near the town of Salcano.
