Coronavirus: 324.083 cases in New Europe,13.427 died

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAY 19 - A total of 324.083 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+2507 day-on-day), of which 174697 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 18. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is constantly slowing down in the last weeks, with the exception of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine according to data updated as of May 18.

Montenegro did not register any new case already since 12 days, according to WHO data.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 13.427 (+100), out of which 7935 registered in Germany, 1097 in Romania, 925 in Poland, 629 in Austria, 535 in Ukraine, 462 in Hungary, 298 in Czechia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (174697, +342 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (29650, +969), Ukraine (18616, +325), Poland (18529, +272), Romania (16871, +167), Austria (16154, +14), Serbia (10610, +114), Czechia (8475, +20), Moldova (6060, +126), Hungary (3535, +26), Greece (2834, +15), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2289, +24), Bulgaria (2235, +24), Croatia (2226, +2), North Macedonia (1792, +30), Estonia (1774, +4), Lithuania (1541, +7), Slovakia (1494, +1), Slovenia (1466, +1), Latvia (1008, +11), Kosovo (955, +11), Albania (948, +2), and Montenegro (324).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 40724 confirmed cases and 1957 deaths were registered as of May 18.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 3124 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3727 in Italy, followed by Moldova (2260) and Germany (2101), while the lowest rate was observed in Slovakia (274 per million) and Greece (263 per million), according to a count based on WHO data. In the region, Germany has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (95), followed by Moldova (79), Austria (71), Romania (57) and Slovenia (50), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 528 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between May 11 and May 18, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+24,0%), Moldova (+23,0%), Ukraine (+19,0%) and Poland (+15,8%). In Serbia, Greece, Czechia, Lithuania, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, Estonia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%.

Between May 4 and May 11, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was observed in Belarus (+36,7%), Ukraine (+26,9%), Bulgaria (21,4%), Moldova (+19,6%), Poland (+16,8%), Romania (+16,7%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (+13,0%), the lowest in Montenegro (+0,9%), Austria (+1,2%) and Slovenia (+1,3%). Also in Lithuania, Czechia, Croatia, Germany, Slovakia, Greece, Estonia and Kosovo the weekly increase of new cases is below 5%. (ANSA).
