(ANSA) - BELGRADO, 09 MAG - A total of 291.766 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (+3790 day-on-day), of which 167300 in Germany only, were registered in countries in Central- and Eastern Europe, Germany, Austria and Greece, show official data of national authorities received by the World Health Organization (WHO) by 10:00, May 8. The growth of COVID-19 cases in the region is slowing down, with the exception of Belarus and Ukraine in particular, where the numbers are still growing fast.

The total number of fatalities in the region is 11.806 (+244), out of which 7266 registered in Germany, 876 in Romania, 755 in Poland, 609 in Austria, 392 in Hungary, 361 in Ukraine, 270 in Czechia, 206 in Serbia, 148 in Greece, 145 in Moldova, 116 in Belarus, 99 in Slovenia.

Most of cases of COVID-19 in the area were registered in Germany (167300, +1209 in the last 24 hours), followed by Belarus (20168, +913), Austria (15673, +22), Poland (15047, +307), Romania (14499, +392), Ukraine (14195, +504), Serbia (9848, +57), Czechia (8031, +57), Moldova (4605, +129), Hungary (3178, +28), Greece (2678, +15), Croatia (2125, +6), Bosnia-Herzegovina (2027, +10), ), Bulgaria (1829, +51), Estonia (1720, +7), North Macedonia (1572, +33), Slovenia (1449, +1), Slovakia (1445, +16), Lithuania (1433, +5), Latvia (909, +9), Kosovo (861, +1), Albania (850, +18), and Montenegro (324).

In Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and in the Western Balkans (Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania) 36.293 confirmed cases and 1.613 deaths were registered as of May 8.

In Central- and Eastern Europe, Belarus has registered about 2125 cases of COVID-19 per million inhabitants, compared to 3569 in Italy, followed by Germany (2012), Austria (1761) and Moldova (1717), while the lowest rate was observed in Bulgaria (261 per million) and Greece (249 per million), according to a count by ANSA based on WHO data. In the region, Germany has registered the highest number of deaths per one million population in the region (87), followed by Austria (68), Moldova (54) and Slovenia (48), Slovakia the lowest (5). Italy has recorded around 495 deaths per million inhabitants.

Between April 27 and May 4, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was registered in Belarus (+67.2%), followed by Ukraine (+36,9 %), and Bulgaria (+24,5%), while in Germany, Czechia, Greece, Estonia, Croatia, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Montenegro and Lithuania the weekly increase is now below 5%.

Between April 20 and April 27, the highest weekly increase of confirmed cases was registered in Belarus (+118,9%), followed by Ukraine (+57,8%), Kosovo (+42,6%), Bulgaria (42,1%), Moldova (+37,1%) and Hungary (+30,2%), the lowest in Austria (+3,3%), Montenegro (+4,2%) and Slovenia (+5,8%). Between April 13 and April 20, the highest weekly increases of confirmed cases were registered in Belarus (+85.4%), Ukraine (+84.1%), Serbia (+74.0%), Slovakia (+56.5%) and Moldova (+48.7%), the lowest in Austria (+5.5%), Greece (+5.7%) and Slovenia (+10.4%).
